The son of Peruvian and Mexican immigrants, Alejandro (he/his) was born in Los Angeles, CA., in 1984, but raised in Peru and the U.S.-Mexico border. He is a writer, multimedia producer, photographer and former newspaper editor. His reporting and and photography have appeared in the Washington Post, The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, The Charlotte Observer, The Imperial Valley Press, ThinkProgress, among others. He has a Masters of Science in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from the University of California, San Diego.

His 2012 documentary El Field achieved theatrical release in Mexico and had its U.S. premiere at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The movie was also an official selection of various international film festivals in Europe and the Americas, including Morelia International Film Festival, one of Latina America's leading cinematic events. In 2025, the Mexican Institute of Cinema awarded him a script development grant for Alive they took them, Alive we want them, a neo-noir film about a schoolteacher who tracks her son's kidnappers through his stolen cell phone.
